2. a package, trunk, in a merchant ship; gefa alin af sekk hverjum, Sturl. i. 222; þeir tóku sekka nokkura ór búlkanum … fóru nú aðrir sekkar á hann ofan þeir er léttari vóru … sekkir tveir lágu þar hjá búlkanum, Nj. 134: hence sekkja-gjald, n. a ‘trunk-tax,’ a tax payable to the king of Norway by Icel. ships; this tax is first mentioned in deeds of the 14th century, N.
